Italy Trip Days 3-4

On Thursday we planned on laying low, just relaxing on the beach and just checking out Monterosso more. But....Brian came up with a wonderful idea. He kinda mentioned to me that he would like to check out Pisa, Italy while we were here. So we threw out the idea to a few of our friends and we decided to go. So Thursday morning we went to the train station and bought our tickets and headed off to Pisa. It was about an hour and a half train ride to get there but it was definitely worth it! As soon as we got there we headed off to find the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It was a really neat town to see and visit on the spare of the moment. The tower was really cool, we were all amazed when we saw it in real life, the pictures don't do it justice. Beside the tower was a cool old Cathedral that we got to go inside. It was amazing and so beautiful with the structure and design of the whole place, the many wall paintings that were absolutely huge, and the different statues and other creations everywhere. The pictures did not turn out as well as we were hoping in the Cathedral because of the lack of lighting throughout the building but it was the best part of the day for sure. We were unable to tour the inside of the tower because it was expensive and had to have reservations or book certain times for the tour so we just admired it from the outside. After that there was not much else to see in Pisa so we ate more Pizza for lunch, with a gelatto and took the train back to Monterosso.

The rest of the day consisted of searching through the different shops and laying on the beach. For supper we decided to go to an even fancier place for dinner that we heard about. There was this massive dish of food consisting of many different seafood creatures that can be shared between 3 people. We were definitely in on that so our friend Mike joined Brian and I and we shared this insane huge bowl between us. The dish included so many mussels, lots of squid, several prawns (with the head and legs still attached), a big octopus (complete, head and all), and a lobster! It was crazy and all very tasty and filling for the 3 of us. When they brought it out to us they first put a huge empty bowl onto the table in front of us and then came out with a big urn like thing full of seafood...hahaha As they poured out the contents of the urn the whole restaurant stopped what they were doing to watch us and everyone was in awe, full of amazement, especially us. It was an experience we will never forget that's for sure, the octopus was great by the way. That night we just hung out with everyone, chilled on our deck and went to sleep. We had some free time the next morning and just hung out in the town for a while, and caught our long train home to finish off a great weekend.

Next blog update will happen soon and we will tell about the amazing time we had in Florence, Italy this past weekend.

Hey Brian & Louise!

I would have posted sooner, but I didn't know I could without "creating an account"... and I was obviously too lazy to do that at the time!

I'm glad to see you're keeping this blog up to date -- It looks like you guys are having a blast! :-) My family had a good laugh at the pictures from the Cinque Terre, seeing as one of them was almost identical to one we have (I should really find it and send it to you guys!)

Brian, the leaning tower of pisa brings back memories of: "You'd better run!" -- Dr. Wong.

I hope you guys are having a great time settling in to the european atmosphere...Jobs and all -- Graphs are valuable, Brian, right?

Looking forward to the next post!

Cheers,

Mike
